After reading post after post. I t doesn't seem like too many people would bother to tinker with with these 23 chan. Rigs!

Well I picked up a bone stock working 138a.

This is what I have this is what I'd like to work on on. So any information would be greatly appreciated.

Few questions.
I'm looking for documentation on all the test pins. Maybe service manual. ?
"Crystals" is there a way to test them? Like a ohm reading?
in the hc-25/u form are the different brands mixable to achieve desired freq. Or would it be best to stay with the uni brand that's in this rig?

On the power mod
Says cut d40 a d d41
Is this cut and leave open or remove diode and repair trace with jumper or similar?
And vr15 for ssb. On the donor and the working radio I have. The spot is empty. I assume one needs to be installed.
Is this correct? At what value?

Receive mod? Or is it better left alone?

I'm in the process of recapping this radio using nichicon muse and fine gold caps
Any technical pro/cons to this?

One side question relating to 858 pll. In reference to legality.FCC outlawed! Is that in design, operation?

I do not have a sams on this radio. it looks to be in the cb57 book. you might see if you can get one for the service manual.
