Hi -
I have a Cobra 148GTL - bought it used and have never made a contact successfully. I have it hooked up to an A99 and the SWR is very low (<1.5). When I look at output with an MFJ power/swr meter, on AM it's about 0.5W deadkey, and doesn't seem to swing at all with talking, whistling, single tone. On SSB, swing is pretty much the same. If I monitor on another radio placed right on the desk, it picks up a signal and I can hear my voice (both SSB and AM) but of course the receiver is 6" from the tranmission line and 100' from the A99.
So - the question is - does this sound like an adjustment or more likely some significant component replacement. Doesn't make sense to put a lot of money into a radio I bought used in the first place.
Would really value any thoughts/insights.
Thanks!
Michael
