Hi, yall! And thanks for having me on here!

A month or so ago I bought this S3 from a friend at work who had no clue whether it had been opened up, modded, anything. I ran it with cophased Francis 4' sticks in a brand new KW using an RK56 mic with the little ceramic capacitor bypassed inside. It's been on a bench for a freebie diagnostic, and the guy replaced TR17 and said something's going out in the rx, but didn't go into anymore detail than that. I also noticed that one of the coils in the back had been spread out, so I squeezed it back together.

What it's doing is everytime I run it, I have to turn the rf gain all the way down to hear plain CBs when they're next to me - or else the radio overmodulates and clips(big radios clip regardless up close). My first thought was that I should be able to hear Martians with the rf gain dimed out. However, I'm doing good to hear two miles out if that. My Cobra 29 NW pulls in much better on the same antenna setup, and I've been told it talks hotter too.

I'm stumped. Any ideas what to look for?

Should've mentioned this earlier, sorry! I also have no functioning squelch. I can turn the squelch all the way down and it still gives zero static. All I can get noise wise is the engine noise with the NB/ANL off and the volume up past half.
