I just got this and it seems to have a few issues.
1- When listening, there is static but no RX signal or voices. I can however hear a test radio 1 foot away. TX works. and PA works. i was told to replace all electrolytic caps and i did. no change, good anyways.
2- after changing the first few E-caps it started a weird issue. when i shut it off, the LCD displays stay about 5% lit, just enough to notice.
3-i noticed that i have +12v at the chassis in AC and DC mode.
4-i was told to throw in a Receive Kit w/SSB Transistor Upgrade from ebay. i did, now my freq counter cycles all different numbers when radio is off/powered down.

for a totally unmolested unit I'm ready to fill it with tannerite and go boom!
Where to start? There are NO CB shops around.

1- Sounds like a mixer or I.F. problem.

2- Changing electrolytic caps? Why? Just blindly changing caps?? Might have one reverse polarity or something here. Or maybe you installed a cap with much higher capacity than stock and it isn't draining quickly.

3- Yep, you should.

4- Stop throwing parts in your radio! Fix it first, THEN do "modifications".
Your radio 'Mythbuster' since 1998

I disagree Tech833. Do fix the radio, and then do NOT modify the radio. Everyone's magic screwdriver cannot squeeze out 1 more watt on a band, and not expect it not to cost elsewheres. Focus on a working radio, and a good antenna. A modded radio is a toy, and expect it to get broken.
