i have an eagle tomohawk base/mobile radio that i bought about 2 years ago from a friend of mine that had already had the freq mods done on it. my problem is the lights in the all the displays ex:meters and all lights behind lcd display are very dim most of the time even when the dimmer switch was set on the bright or high setting and sometimes when transmitting or even when just turned on the lights also flicker by themself .
another friend of mine that does some repairs on radios said to check and be sure that the screws on the circuit board that the dimmer switch and lcd display are on to ensure a good ground and i checked the fuse to see if it was causing a lack of adequate power to the radio but there was no problem with the fuse so i am clueless .someone please help me

thanks, dave

radiodude,

thanks for the input.I was wondering if you could possibly give me a little detail into this message , such as do you mean find another outlet or is it something to do with the transformer ,what do you mean by power supply?

thanks again,
dave

He's talking about checking the voltage output on the internal power supply, locate RV11, that controls the 13.8 volt output, try turning it clockwise a little, if that doesn't work ask 307...might be a regulator problem if it isn't a problem at RV11.

to whom it may concern,

thank you all for youre help but i guess i was too late.to give an update on my tomohawk i turned on the radio on friday afternoon and the lights did not light . a good friend of mine has the same radio and had his bulbs burn out on him ,it seems to be a common problem for these radios he had all his bulbs replaced with new 14 volt bulbs and it works perfect now .he took his to a local guy in central n.y. that knows what he is doing ,and the tech told my friend when he was done with the radio that it was a time consuming and tedious process of removing the faceplate and working on such a small area unsoldering and resoldering the new bulbs in and he also said that he would rather not tackle another unless he really had to.
