well im sorry to say it just might be the end of the line for my 2970 problems are -tech cant seem to get it alined on ssb,the nob to change the ch. seems to skip and I have noticed that the recive fades out(snap the key down on the mic and it comes back in)its still in the shop but when I stoped to check on it they said it may be the cpu. wont know till the tech comes back in and finish checking it out. My question is if I dont want to buy a cpu can the amp and harware be used to make a 2950 into a 2970? or can the amp be turnd into a small amp on its own with say the help of a disfuntional amps chasis?or even incorperated into my 2980?

I think Ranger still sells the board for that radio new and cost only $100.00. Not for sure though.

I've had that problem with all my radios espesially at the output of amps.slightly loose coax connectors and heat generation causes relay contacts to warp, but loose coax effects the recieve just like that, the so-239 center connector opens up due to repeated unplugging of coax.

big bob, I do take this radio in and out of my pick up on a regular basis do you think the connector can give me a fit like that? that sounds like some thing to check for with the recieve. I can live with the skip in the ch. nob (just use the up-down buttons) but I just cant take it being off freq. on ssb.I talk some on AM but would rather be on lsb.any day of the week and this radio is useless for that.I must say I just replaced it with a base 2980 and like this radio alot and now I know the diferance between freq. counter and a freq. display wish the radio advertisements would be more clear about this when they list their radios especialy base rigs.
