of these "after" a good peak&tune?(AM&SSB;deadkey to peak)also, will you guys do the channel con-version and if so how much more are we lookin' at for the two mentioned above? (if purchased from ya'll of course)
and one more thing; how does the RX of these
compare to that of a cobra 2000GTL? same?more/less
white noise? in your opinion of course!
BTW,i love the imax 2000 i got from ya!

Well of course a Cobra 2000 was tops and everyone is "trying" to get there , however the 2995 is up there with the top 10. I set power to 10 watts key and the rest swing on the 2995 , It does real well and sounds great.

Hello 307, been a while since i've been on Forum....Anyways I was wondering about my 2995DX. People say I'm crazy for paying this much for this rig....But I really enjoy it, upgrading from my Galaxy Saturn, Anyways I was wondering about the internal power supply....When I'm half throttle on the RF power it's clear and loud....When I crank it up, it seems to still be loud but raspy around the edges....Kinda like it's starving for power.....Was thinking of wiring a external....Beefy power supply in it, and bypassing the stock one all together.......if so, what do you think this big Ol' black base would like as far as amps?????? and if it would clean the edges up on Modulation.......

Uhh, Snapperhead, how much carrier power is "full throttle" ? If someone has cranked the trimpot inside for much above 35 watts, the sound should get "tight", just like any other amplifier with too much dead key.

The internal power supply is built to deliver between 20 and 25 Amps, more or less. An external one would at least remove about half the heat from that skimpy heat sink in back. You might be able to do away with the fan if you use an external P.S.

A true PEP meter should show at least 125 watts on this radio. Folks who tweak the linear in the back, or who extend the upper range of the Voltage Set trimpot to 15 Volts will see more like 150 to 180 watt peaks. Just remember that how long you squeal those tires affects how many miles they will drive.

ok 2600, thanks for tip.....My Dosy meters that I got from Copper show about 180w at a good whistle......maybe I should turn down the SSB power pot on board to about 125 to 150w at a good whistle....Thanks again.....73's

Call Copper with the TOTAL price, including S/H, and I think they will match the price!

Ranger tells all its dealers that they must advertise at a certain price or they will stop selling to them. That doesn't mean that we can't sell at a lower price it just means that we can't advertise at a lower price.

We will not only match the competitors price we will beat it. This is our policy on any advertised price.

Also, If I had that radio, I'd want to run it with about a 20 watt DK, use a microphone/AMC setting that gave me 100 percent modulation, and adjust the alc on SSB to about 100 watts. (Run it like a Ham set) Nobody will ever notice the slightly reduced output, It will sound terrific, and run cooler, last longer. If I paid for bench time, I'd want the tech to spend the available time on a proper alignment/tune for the receiver section.

Hoosiercardinal,

Why the ;-) ?

And Why not from COPPER at a better price?

The Forummaster told you the the COPPER POLICY is to not only Match the Competitors price but Beat it, on any advertisied price.

I am Just Curious?

mr.307, i have put internal preamps in all kinds of radios but, i have an rci 2985dx and i am not sure where in the receive circuit to install it. i have the pdf diagram and so far i have had good luck with the smt design. i hope you can inform me as to where to make these connections in the receive circuit for the preamp. the preamp i have has two wires for the receive and two wires for my power. all i need to do to finish this is to connect the receive wires.
