ok you asked for it turn up the alc all the way,do the same for the amc,and turn carrier up all the way,13 watts dead key will swing to about 32,40 on ssb,but you'll sound murky and very distorted,oh yeah clip out the amc transistor.if you want to sound clean and just like a 2970,YOU HAVE TO BUY A 2970,instead of the pipsqueak 2950,been there done that,I speak from experience, there is no "magic"formula,if you want guts you gotta' buy guts.I'm very sorry.

Weakeststation he's gonna send me another scathing e-mail,'cause he wants to know how to volt the finals and do the npc-mod,he doesn't want to hear common sense, probably because of this scenario:I can't afford a 100 watt radio so I'll get the 25 watter then spruce it up with all the latest mods all my buds are talking about,if you don't have a spectrum anyliser or at least a scope to see the rf envelope you can't tell what's comming out the other end,you may end up with a $500 piece of junk sitting on your desk with burnt up finals and blown am power strip and fried circuit board,I was just trying to save him some money in the long run,but like me 6 years ago I didn't want hear it,I was bound and determined that I knew what I wanted and no one was gonna' sway me then poof! Two years later got a dx2517 had 307 do the then $30 mod got the best sounding radio in northern Mi.Oh and by the way I'm not a tech by any means I just have a username and password and opinions based on experience like everyone else not assosiated with copper.

Charliebrown...

It looks like you aren't going to get much help here. If you need the mods for that 2950 just email me. I will help you.

Its a shame that some people here think that the only way to go is with power. Power Power Power. They don't care what they sound like on the air but they sure have power. (Personally I'd rather be heard than seen. I could care less how many "Pounds" I'm giving someone). They haven't got a clue what radio communications are really about. And that's really a shame. And because they can afford a RCI-2970, I guess they believe everyone else on this forum should be able to afford a 2970 also. Charliebrown, they didn't always own a 2970. They were Cobra 29 owners to just like the rest of us low-lifers did.

Just so you know Charliebrown, I am not aiming my observations-of what I have been seeing here on the forum lately-at the real Copper Techs. Those guys are pretty sharp, and they are the ones you should be asking if you have a problem. What I admire about them is if they don't have, or don't know the answer, they're not afraid to say so. But that's rare indeed. I've been in the radio communication business for over 30 years now and even I don't have all the answers. I would be foolish to claim otherwise. And you will never hear any of the Copper Techs make such a claim either.

So if you want help without all of the smart mouth remarks that I have been seeing here lately, be more specific and direct in who you are asking for help. By going right to the Copper Techs, they will do their level best to help you and be curtious about it too. Like me, this is what they know and do best. They don't care what kind of radio you own. You'll get "professional" help from them. Just how long do you think they would last here if they weren't professional and curtious.

The remarks to you Charliebrown about the kind of radio you own were uncalled for. It just pi$$ed me off enough to say something about it. But I know I wasted my time and Copper Forum space.

OK folks. I've calmed down now. I'm OK now I think.

Jeff, kc0gxz.

PS: Like you Bigbob, I also am NOT associated with Copper in any way but I do offer assistance here on the forum now and then when time allows. And I don't even care what kind of radio they own. Gee, I even help people that own those little RCI-2970s without being sarcastic or taunting about it.

kc0gxz,my posting does sound rather one sided,I was answering his e-mails my e-mail would not send,so the only way I could answer was by the copper forum,I have nothing against any radio, got a modded pc-122 I bought from copper 12 years ago in my truck;pounds?db's and s-units,1 s-unit=6db,but with out clean, clear, crisp modulation it means absolutly nothing,I agree,rf amps are worse than useless if they do not produce a linear wave-form.I really didn't mean to sound like a smart ***,I believe somewhere in this forum there are instructions for performing the npc mod/final volting,in the other mod section.Or just ask 307 or tech808,these guys are cracker-jacks with radios

Kc0gxz,unless he already has your e-mail address,he can't,because it isn't in your profile,I do care what I sound like "on the air",that's why I had 307 do the mod on my dx2517,and I'd rather go with antenna gain than amp gain, taking down pdl-2 putting up white lightning, seldom use boomer 400 it's just to much most times. Can talk barefoot from home to roscommon or cheboygan,90 miles over land, but point north over water no can do,go figure. But before blowing your stack next time,e-mail the offended party and get the facts then post,my typing finger won't get so sore.
