If it shows 100 Watts on ANY kind of wattmeter, you don't have "bad finals". It's hard to tell just what it's delivering without knowing what kind of meter you're using. You really don't want the AM carrier much higher than 30 watts max. If it doesn't have a fan blowing on the heat sink fins, turning it up will just make it fail sooner. One way to judge what's going on is to select USB (or LSB, doesn't matter which), turn the RF Power all the way up, the mike gain all the way up, and whistle. Depending on how the radio was set up, this reading will be pretty close to what the TRUE peak power is on AM.

This radio has "issues" with heat beyond just the need for a fan. Unless someone has unbolted the regulator transistors and rectifier bridge, removed the extra "dry" insulator and reassembled it with adequate heat sink compound, it could be suicide-prone. One common way to extend the life of this model is to turn down the voltage adjust trimpot on the power supply regulator. Keeps it from blowing up quite so soon, but reduces transmit power.

200 Watts PEP out of this radio is either a "happy" wattmeter, or a hot-rod that has to be rebuilt from time to time, or maybe both.

the radio has a fan on the back as far as meters i got a pdc700 peakreading meter im told thats what you need is peakreading.however my friend has a dosy looks like mine reads very close to same. on sideband it smokes it does anywhere between 175-200watts. i usually dont run it that hard if ever generally on am the deadkey set at 30 watts and will swing70 and thats with a whistle. and like i said the am modulation vr is turned up all the way.

Dale, you failed to mention what type of mic you were using.A good power mic will increase the mod ulation on any radio.

dx341 im running a silvereagle. the modulation on my pdc700 says 90-100 however it the deadkey/forwardswing thats off. i took it to a cbshop they peaked andrepeaked it and they couldnt get it to swing the way it should. example from a 20watt deadkey it only swings40-50watts they said it capable of doing 150watts from that deadkey with modulation limiter in tact. id love to get it fixed christmas is coming. hummm wheres 307

Sounds to me like the AM regulator or the AM modulator is bad.

Hmm ive had 2 of them and they both will do pretty much between 150 and 175 properly tuned from a 30 watt carrier..Like the guys say you should never run it up more than 30 watts and that will give you the 1 to 4 ratio or the 1 to 5 ratio for peak to carrier and you will sound good.
The last one i had did about 200 pep on SSB with the stock mike.... When you get one that is working like it should they are a great radio!!!

on ssb it shows 175-200watts with no promblem i need 2 find someone 2 fix it took it to a cb shop set it up with 30wattdk max only swings around 70 watts. they said it should do at least 150 from a 30wattdk. im with bigbob i think its more than something simple like retuning. i asked 307 but the post never showed on my computer so i dont know what he said my loss
