I have a DX2547, that I sent off to a "reputable" tech for a frequency expansion. I recieved the radio only to find that there is now no recieve on ssb.The frequency mod was a success, and the tech claims that nothing he did would have affected ths ssb recieve. I am positive it was recieving prior to the mod. If there is a simple fix, please let me know, otherwise, where should I send it for repair? I have $300 invested in a radio I cannot use. Thanks in advance, Bigfoot. |

Man I hate that, you take your chances sometimes my previous tech couldn't put a channel expansion kit in a president p400 without totally reengineering the clarifier circuit.A simple 40dollar job became 150,almost the price of the radio.I know you're not stupid but check the p.a. switch and/or squelch,I've done the squelch thing, makes you feel dummer than a box of rocks. |

Thanks Bob, but I have checked everything, the rig works perfectly on AM, but 0 recieve on ssb, nothing, not a sound. It does transmit fine on ssb, but the recieve is dead. Go figure. |

the tech you sent it to, how did he say it rxed in ssb mode at his location? you haven't said if he acknowdledges if it worked there or not, just that he says that he did nothing to cause the problem. if it did work fine before he sent it to you, then i would start checking for cold solder joints in the ssb rx area. it only takes one bump on a ups/usps truck to make a bad joint raise its ugly head. one bad joint can completely kill ssb rx. lord knows i have had some weird things happen during return shipping. some things i even thought the customer was making up or crazy. but to keep my 'reputation' i offered to repair the problem and return ship it for free if the customer would pay for shipping back to me. |

Ok, the tech said he never checked ssb recieve, go figure, only that the mod was fine when it left his shop. He is willing to work on the radio again, but at full cost. If you turn the volume to max, there is some recieve, but it is very distorted, but once again it transmits fine. Can you recomend a tech? I would like to get it working asap. Thanks, Bigfoot |

he never checked ssb rx?? and you still call him a tech?? and now he is wanting you to pay full cost to do what he didn't do the 1st time(ssb sensitivity alignment, ssb smeter calibration, etc)?? i would be asking for a refund. there are switching diodes, transistors, etc for ssb in the radio that he could have shorted when performing the ch mod. he could have damaged this/these area/s and the ch. modification would still work fine while the ssb rx is in the trash. no 'reputable' tech performs a mod and then does not check -COMPLETE- operation of a radio. leaving it at that, i would suggest contacting 307 and see if he isn't too busy to take this in. |

I agree, Any self respecting "Tech" does a complete alignment on a radio after a mod such as this. But I have seen way to many "Screwdriver Jockeys" out there that call themselves So-called "Techs" This behavior makes it extremely hard on all real techs, because it gives techs a bad name. |

Everyone is right on here!! I'd never let a radio out of my door unless I got to use it for a while and make sure it was A OK. Tony, |
