Dear Tech's could you please tell me how to modify the clarifier on a early version Pluto (serial # below 5000)ept360012b board i think.Too track on trasmit with the fine clarifier.and how to center up after mod is performed?I removed r141 & d38 and soldered bridge j106 pin 54 to 8 volts.When i fired the radio up on ch.12 it was on ch.13 and the fine tune would not move the freq at all.Am i correct that the 8 volts is there at the solder bridge?Please have pity and help a old man.

I sure hope i have not boobed my radio up.Tech 307 i may need to send the rig to you to put the touch on that dang clarifier.I think my main problem is that i did not get the 8 volt source.
Please help if you have the time and don't mind.I promise i want make this a habit.I usually don't have the need to modify my rigs.Just wanted to get the pluto right on ssb.

Hi Tallman,
No, the 8 Volts doesn't go to the two pads that get bridged. It should feed into R141. The front-most hole that R141 came out of should lead to one pin of the single-row connector where all this is getting done. I think it's the pin on the inboard end of that socket. Solder one end of R114 there, and the other end to the wide 8-Volt trace that runs along the front edge of the board.
Don't remember the "J" label for that row of pins. R141 feeds into the same pin that it used to feed into before it was pulled out from the receive-only 8-Volt supply that used to feed into it.
Taking R141 out of the "fine" circuit and jumpering it DIRECTLY to the 8 Volt trace at the front edge of the board removes the current limit that R141 provided. If any of the wires or lugs on the Clarifier control should short to ground, R141 keeps the damage to a minimum. Jumpering it creates a small, but unnecessary hazard WITHOUT really improving the range of the clarifier. Tried to locate a new Fine/Coarse clarifier control like that one lately? Best not to need one.

Would you mind explaining this mod one more time step by step? I'm confused about where the solder bridge is made there at pin 54 of j106.Do i get my 8 volts near the bridge?I'm disabled and trying to do this myself to save a little if i can.I may try to find a local tech.

Greetings all,
New here and treading lightly until I get the hang of this forum.
***I have a GALAXY PLUTO that has already been modified. However, the clarifier is not sitting at dead center (detent). Does anyone have the info of which "slug" to adjust to center up the clarifier controls?...Thanks in advance. |
