I have seen numerous statements regarding the now discontinued "super diodes". No-one seems to have the exact info on what values these were. I Have seen messages saying it is a commonly available varactor diode but have also seen statements saying it is a totally discontinued part with no replacement. Does anyone know what the definitive answer is and/or what the values of this diode are?

Is there some secret no-one wants to reveal?

Just wondering,what would happen if you put a low voltage led in place of a varactor diode,anything or nothing,just curious but not enough to POOF my rig.

a good source for an excellent (super diode) device is the older cobra radios using the "green banded varactor"........

otherwise look for the MV1404 High "Q" Hyperabrupt Tuning Diode. this is the ONE you want.

you will be able to download the data sheet from this url if you're interested in the electrical
specifications. there are many other devices listed as well. the MV devices are located in the bottom right hand corner of the document, just scroll down and left.

Out of curiousity, just how much "slide" does a person need in their radio? The more transmit slide you put into it, the less correct tramsmit and receive tracking you will have on SSB.

In other words, the farther you take your clarifier down into a slide, the greater the offset you will have between the trans and rec frequency. However, this uncorrect trans and rec tracking difference is not noticable in the A-M mode since the a A-M bandwidth is much wider than a SSB bandwidth.

Good suggestions for a standin but they dont come up to to the one and only original not made anymore.Mainly because they operate that specification over a 10v range wheres the 6510 was setup over a 8v range with a changing Q factor as well through the range which made more of its internal capacitance useful in the circuit. I tried the mv1404 and the trouble you have is not enough up range to centre the radio properly without series capacitance added, and inductance added makes the problem worse, because it needs to get to 10v but stops at 6v or 8v depending on your radio with still too much capacitance in the circuit.I have used them in a switched configuration with the original varactor for a 10kc switch with further downslide available and tuned the added circuit to centre with added components. I have spent years trying substitutes and cant find anything that compares to the 6510.

Jeff the RIT on most radios i have is only +/- 2khz any father than that and your going out of the IF (2.1khz) filter. sounds to me if one is that determin to shilt frequency a little referance crystal rubbering is in order.

is there any substitute that i can put in my 148 for the super slide mod

Also how can i get a 20 kc down slide? i need to slide down more than up so 1 or 2kcs up would sute me

I used a maxi-tune diode and a 10 micro-henry choke coil on the ground end of the diode,gave me 20kcs up and 25kcs down on my clarifier on my president p-400,I think those diodes are dicontinued also,I bet a 10 micro-henry choke on a galaxy would have same results.Try a 10 or 15 on your 148,man it makes a BIG diff.Bigbob

You can get get 10kcs by grounding pin 16 with a switch on a 148. I used a NTE 611 Varactor Diode. It gave me about a 13kc slide and worked the best overall with the 148. I tried averything from an NTE 610-614. Make sure you have at least a constent 8 volts for the clarifier.
