to put more than 4-5 watts into it
said the keying circuit would not
handle it. i realy like mine it has
all 8950's in it does real good.

i have had 2 maco 300 and best deadkey is about 3 watts and i got 800 out of both boxes if all you get is 350 you need tubes and there not cheap look www.bills2way.com he has some,my buddy got 1000 watts out of his when you replace the tubes take a long screwdriver and ground it to the caseing of the box then while touching the side of the box touch the top of each tube to get the voltage remaining in the caps out

make sure you know how to adjust it hold it keyed look at your watt meter and adjust the load to the highest point of wattage then do the same to the tune,if you dont your tubes will give out

This is similar to the Skipper 300 question. You can retube them for less expensive tubes. However, you will need to leave one 8950 in it but the other 6 would be much less expensive. Let me know if you need more details. I have done this to several Skippers and a Maco 200.

You can email me about the other tubes and the conversion required. I just got a Maco 300 in that I am getting ready to convert. It is a little crispy in places so it will be a slow process but I can tell you more about yours.

CHECK OUT "ANTIQUE RADIO SUPPLY" !

I GET MY OLD MLITARY TUBES FROM THEM !
I DON'T HAVE MY BOOK OR THE URL WITH ME AT THIS MOMENT ; JUST RUN A SEARCH FOR THE Co. ON LINE , AND IT SHOULD SHOW UP SOMEWHERE ON THE SEARCH RESULTS PAGE !
GOOD LUCK ,

"GRAYHOUND"

P.S. 8950's ARE GOING TO BE HIGH $$$ ANYWHERE YOU FIND THEM ; FROM MY EXPERIENCE !!!
I'D HAVE IT SET UP FOR DIFF. TUBES TOO !
I HAD MY AMP DONE THAT WAY .. REPLACED 12 TUBES FOR 6 BETTER ONES & GOT MORE POWER & MORE DURABILITY TO BOOT !
BUT I HAVE A GREAT TEC. GUY THAT'S THE BEST I'VE SEEN WITH OLD TUBE RIGS !

Here is another place. They are the best price I have seen from a dealer. Still double what I pay on Ebay but without the risk of bad tubes. http://home.att.net/~esrc/esrcs3.html

The Raider should do close to three hundred with new tubes. It's really cost prohibited to rewire and retube it.

Happens to my mobile amp quite often, I just hit the mic button a couple of times and it comes back, bad relay, I just can't be bothered to change it.

bob has one possibility-more likely, probabilty, but, high SWR could cause it to not unkey, as well.

Did it have 7 tubes? All of the 7 tube 300's that I've seen had 8950's or 6LB6's. In most of them all 7 were the same, 2 driving 5. I have seen a few that had 2-6LB6's driving 5-8950's. If you google, "maco 300 schematic" several will come up. Man that's bad the tubes all got broke, gonna be pretty expensive re-tubing that old boy. Good amps but they are getting old, the last ones were built about 30 years ago. Good luck.
