Who can tell me who manufactured the Northstar and if the Alpha V is a good choice for the antennae? Radio is modified and was working very well on a Starduster accept on the higher freqs. Had higher SWR the higher I went. |

Flying Horseman : Sir I use a VR 9000 and a Skylab base antenna as a temp setup . 25.615-28.305 bottom to top, SWR never exceeds 1.1 With using MFJ deluxe tuner II SWR , just about 0 to 1 all channels. I have a brand new alpha 5/8 I took down, although I feel a excelllent antenna. The SWR was 1.5 AM channels 1 thru 40, in the 27 mhg range. A good antenna Matcher is a good tool for 5/8 Alpha. For ever what my opinion is worth But I live in the wide open Country of Indiana. Bob |

The Av 5/8 wave by Maco is a comercialy great and heavy duty antenna. Has worked great for me for years. Gain is better that the 99, starduster and all other 1/2 wave antenna. I believe its 1.2 db plus gain over all other 1/2 waves, according to all the researsh and information made available by the arrl. I own a 9500 northstar and I believe it to be a Galaxy clone but works great. Right up there with the saturn and other galaxy bases in my oppinion. |

I certainly aprreciate the input. Iguess I'll see what happens when my Maco gets here. Don't really want to use a matcher unless I have to. Haven't heard too much good about them. Hopefully I'll talk to some of you on the air soon. |
