Hello there, I'm new to the forum. I was wondering how i could turn the power down in this 2970, it is the old style radio. It acts fine on SSB, but on AM I have backward swing on the meter and amp.... Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.... Thanx in advance.... Mark

One more thing: It does have a little forward swing on am, with the RF gain all the way down.... Turn it up even 1/4 open and it does to backswing on AM.... The owner of the radio before me must not have liked forward swing.... I know these radio's don't have alot of swing, but they do have power.... Shouldn't swing backward though, what do ya think???

If you had put your E-mail address in your profile, I could send you everything you could possibly want to know about that radio. But, it's not there.

The first generation RCI-2950/70s were the best RCI ever offered.

Kc0gxz, I put my email address in my profile now. Thanx for posting here about the 2970, I too think they are great radio's. I've hardly used it on AM, so I never noticed the back swing in it. Any information on gettin' the thing to swing forward is appreciated. Mark

I Think I found my problem, I took my cheap Radio Shack meter out and hooked up my PDC600LP. This meter shows forward swing, I feel like "DUH". Thanx for answering Jeff, I could still use info if you want to send it though. Mark / 226

The PDC-600LP and many like them will read forwards power whether you really have it or not.

Do this little test.

With the power turned up all the way on the radio, put your meter in either the modulation set mode or the SWR set mode.

Key the radio up on A-M and run the (set) needle to around half scale. Now say aaaaaaahh into the mic and see what the needle does. If the needle swings down, then the internal high-power pot (VR-13) is set way too high.

Since I now have your E-mail address, I am going to send you some information on your 2970.

Jeff, kc0gxz.

Thanx for all the info and mods, Jeff. By the way, nice little test. I would have never known, radio was swingin' backwords. Know where to start now. Thank you very kindly.
