I have a one tube box that says 606 on the front and nothing else its a apollo or fire bird.
so here is what we are dealing with.

1.I coverted the 6lq6 to a el509

2.my concern is that my lincoln @ 35 watts my be
to much for that tube on ssb.

3.I took some voltage readings and found 1070
volts on the plate not keyed down. Can a el509
take this kind of voltage (svetlana says 900
volts in the specs)

4.I checked the transformer out put to the
rectifire and find 768 vac. (transformer is
3.25 inch hight x 3.75 wide)

Now I was thinking since I have the room , is to get rid of the doubler ( and doubler my amps )
Then instal a second el-509. My thinking to this would be to Have to two tubes sharing the drive for a more ruged set up. and maybe a lower dead key on the AM. side ?

So how about it techs do you think this will work
what is your opinions on runnig a el509 on 768 vdc. and 1070 vdc. Any unforsene problems I my enconter ?
Thanks for looking. CEF 216

when you key the amp that voltage will fall to around 900volts or maybe less.

so you may be fine, if anything tube life may be shorted a bit if high.be sure to keep fil voltage at recomended voltage for longer tube life.

im no amp tech by any means but i feel your close
enuff at idle voltage to be in at 900 when keyed down.

what do ya'll think?

The el509 will handle up to 45w input with correct pi network ie tuning and a good cooling fan.1070v will not be a problem.
The ratings are very conservative as is the Russian way. I run mine at 1050v np and you will find a volt drop to 800v or so on load anyhow. The plate can handle 8000v pulsed. If you are going to add a a tube, can the transformer handle the extra load?, as it was probably matched to one tube.

308-
Let me know how this turns out. I have the same 606 amp,... nice, simple box. What kind of wattage are you looking for? The 6lq6 tube is showing me about 110W with 2W dk input.

I'll keep yall informed on this small endevor I'm on. I'm hoping to end up with a good little driver for my other box when I use it and maybe a good little box for talking in general. I was thinking that the voltage was on the high side for the el509 but man, that poor 6lq6 that was in it before!!! This unit in in very good shape....thinking maybe this brought that 6lq6 to a early death and the box was just put up after that. Don't know. But I did check out the KLV transformers and they put out 250 vac to 300 vac before they become doubled in their one and two tube units. How about it 808, 307 and others, What say you?
