I believe this will work for the 2980:
1. shield
2. yellow
3. black
4. n/c

GTO, there's another ground wire, don't know what color it is, but it probably needs to go on Number 1 with the shield. You might try the other wires till you find it.

Hi
I found the other wire. It is the green wire. When connected the mic will transmit with great audio but it will stay keyed even if I do not have the key down. I tried to connect the other wires one at a time to pin 4 to see if it would unkey and had no luck. This is strange because I have wired tons of mics in the past and never had this problem.
THANKS AGAIN

Here is the original wiring for the MC-60 Kenwood Mic. With this, at least you will know what color wire is for what.

1- Yellow-Audio

2- Black-Standby

3- Blue-Down Button

4- Red-Up Button

5- Gray-No Connection

6- Orange-No Connection

7- Shield

8- Green-Ground
-----------------------------------

At least Pins 1 and 7 will get you in the ball park. I hope this may help you.

Jeff, kc0gxz.
