Have a question on my 142GTL. My recieves seem to be lower than my other radios. For instance, I get a 7db signal on my HTX100 or 2970. When I put the 142 on, seems the same signal is only like 1 to 3 S units. Is there something inside that could be misadjusted? I've had contacts tellin' me I'm puttin' 20 over 9 on them, and all I see is like 3 to 5 on them. Just wondered what procedures could be taken to check this problem out.

226 / Mark,

As long as you are hearing them ok and they sound the same,

Adjust: VR-1 ~ "S" Meter Adjustment.

By having two other radios to read meter against you can set it pretty close.

Hope this helps

Alright Lon,

Thanx for the information. I'll give that a whirl and see how it works out.

Just seems the 2970 has better recieves, but on the same note has more noise.

The HTX100 sounds real nice and I understand the S/meter a bit better, it's numbered. Whereas the 2970 has 8 bars.(Don't fully understand how to read this one)

Ok, we'll see how it goes.

i can't remember the vr# for that pot, you may be able to find it on a schem over at cb tricks or the defpom site.

when you do the procedure that 808 described, it is best to do it with a base radio doing the txing or a mobile that is not moving. it will also be more accurate if you can do it with a high s-level(s 8-9) on the radio that is reading properly.
