Hi All,
I would like to see my 2950dx have some more swing in modulation but i don't want all the limiters removed.Just enuff to give stronger drive to a 4 tube amp.Thanks for any help.I don't want a over mod-ed nasty sounding rig...

this is a hard question to answer without knowing what all has been done to the radio already. the 2950dx will do 40-45wpep. there is -NOTHING- that can be done to make it produce more power without the radio becoming unreliable. |

I have a 2950DX I run with a D-104 hand power mike and a Palomar TX-500. Great radio setup!! Mine has some kind of echo/ modulation bord in it made specially for the computer type radios. Everyone I talk to loves it!! super loud!! Maybee 307 or 808 will know the name of the board I am talking about. 73's Marlboro_Man |

Thanks guys,
This 2950 has only been converted for 11 meter use..No power mods,the radio peaks about 25 watts.I just was wanting more mod.I will look and see what the other guy wrote about the 2950dx.

you can adjust the modulation vr to give it more modulation, and this will raise the power output. but to get the full power capabilities of that radio, you'll have to adjust some small wire coils in this section. these aren't the can type, and have to be adjusted/spread properly to keep the power output even across the bandwidth that you plan to use. you also have to be careful that you don't spread the wrong coils, or you will detune the low pass/tvi filter section. sorry, but i don't have any information where i am at right now as to what coils to tune and which to stay away from. my service manual is at a different location. |

Another thing to consider is that your meter may not be a true pep meter, so you might actually be putting out more than your meter thinks. When my DX2517 was tuned up, it did a little over 40 watts on the bench, but my astatic 600 shows around 33-35 watts in the peak reading mode. That's pretty normal for that type of meter. Also, an inproperly tuned antenna can under some circumstances still show a low SWR(jumper length thing) but your meter will still respond to the mismatch by showing you a lower power reading. I would consider these possibilities and try to address them before I went inside the rig. (which I generally don't like to do, I don't have test equipment here to justify doing that) I prefer to have a trained professional work on my stuff, but that's just me  |
