If you change the final to a 2SC2166, cut D14 and do an alignment, you should get around 15-16 Watts of swing.

How big a deal is it to change this final?

People will argue this method, but for me, I've simply removed the L5 and L6 slug (510XL/520XL), cut D14 and put on a cobra power mic. Sounds pretty good, at least when my wife uses it. I haven't heard a males (lower) voice.

Viking,

I can't remember if it was Uniden or Someone else who done a survey on the Most Popular and Best Selling CB in the world several years ago but it came up with the Uniden PRO-510 as #1

There are many different mods out there for the 510/520 Radios and I have seen your mod work as well as others.

Beware for those that want to mod the 510XL. The new ones use a lot of SMT parts. The older version with the 1987 date marked on the board will mod better than the newer version with the 1999 marking.

Well, I have a question. On my new Uniden, we were peaking and tuning it and we found some mods online. The mods that we found online stated that it is ok to change the final and that on the older 510's, but on the newer 510's they don't recommend it. I wanted to change the final in mine, but when we saw that the newer ones wouldn't support that, I changed my mind. Any thouhgts on that? I just don't want to burn my radio up is all! Thanks!

Your 510 works fine kat..
Id leave it like it is.. Your plenty loud on the air from what ive heard!!!
Now that older 510 you have can and will work with a heavier final..
