I wanted to know where you put a zener in a cobra 25 like the zener diode you can put in a gallaxy to open the mod up.

richard,

he's talking about a resister/diode swing mod im sure! he just got the zenier in the way...

find your vr for am power find the resister that goes to it and add a 914 diode there thats one way to do it.

im not a big cobra man anymore so im a bit rusty with them, but 8541 is one of the best techs around he'll guide you in the right direction.

drmod,

there is no diode mod for this radio. you can either clip the limiter or adjust amc. i do not recommend clipping the limiter, but that is me from a technical aspect.

as for the zener diode mod in the galaxy/rci radios, do not do it. if done the wrong way it cuts down your modulation while fooling the wattmeter into thinking the radio is doing more power than it really is. i have had many radios in with this mod where the owner complained that it showed more power on wattmeter but talked a lesser distance than before they had the mod done. o'scopes and service monitors show why when a wattmeter does not.

when it does work, it gives the same result as just clipping the limiter. so you have taken much more time to get the same results.

there is a diode mod that does work properly for these radios, but an o'scope is a must. without it, you are just shooting in the dark. so you are once again back to clipping limiter or adjusting amc control.
