Hi I have a cobra 2000 gtl that started squealing on transmit. It is not the mic it does not do it when you unplug the speaker. when you turn the mic gain up it changes the tone of the squeal there is no audio when you speak in to the mic. The rx is ok and tx is @ 4 watts When I bought this new it did it when the mic gain was turned all the way up but stopped when at about 3/4 with a power or stock mic. any ideas Thanks |

It could be a loose a wire in the mike wire plug. Being as it did not do it before, and just started doing it, I'd start there. Periodically I need to redo mine. |

Mikes break a lot more often than radios. This doesn't mean a radio that's 20 years old can't have problems. On the other hand if it's a 10 year-old 2000 GTL, it's not old enough to start getting troublesome, yet. Takes about 15 years, usually. A 2000 built before 1988 or so (Taiwan or Japan) could be getting senile. If you don't have a spare mike to try, it's time to track one down. If the screws that clamp the cord to the plug have loosened, suspect ratty connections inside the plug. Use a mike long enough, and it's guaranteed to happen, eventually. 73 |
