Hey guys,
long time, no questions so here goes. I have a 706 and it is awesome in the base set-up situation, but when I set it up in the moblile it picks up a lot of noise when engine is running. Now, my Ford Explorer is a 2000 model and I am using a Wilson 5000 magmount (which has a great swr, no problems in that area). When I was back in Australia over Xmas I took 706 with me and put it in my little Mitsubishi van and the QRM was also terrible, around a constant S7-8!! Arhhhh!. So, is it a radio trait?? I have a mag 257 and a 2950DX and both these radios are super quiet, no vehicle QRM at all??What gives, I appreciate any help.
Cheers

Andrew
PS- I will be heading back to Australia in mid May for a few months , then up to Hong Kong, will be setting up rig in Hong Kong, should be interesting to see how DX will be! Listen out for me.

I have one too, but have never used it mobile. Are you using the grounding lug in the back? and the Noise Reduction (NR) option? and the Noise Blanker (NB) option?

Hope you get it solved. Post your frequency and dates for the HONG KONG trip here at COPPER and you will be swamped!

welcome to my world guys. i use an icom 706 mkiig in my 2000 ford ranger.and it gets a lot of noise.it had a full meter of noise before i did a rf filter on my fuel pump. now its down to 6-7 on am and 1-4 max on ssb so its very usable now on ssb where i am anyway. check out http://www.97vette.com/sporttrac/rfi_fix/rfi_fix.html
that should help you even has pictures!! its very easy as long as you have a flashlight and patience and a small swear jar!! lol but i did it and its helps a lot!! i used a total of 10 ferrites on my homemade filter but if you have more by all means use them!! good luck
