I purchased a KLV-400 base amp from copper several months ago. I was never sure how to tune it. The manual is not to extensive & only gives a few lines of instruction in English. I use it on my Galaxy 2517. I drive the amp with about 2 watts. When I tune by the book, I get on LOW about 25 watts dead key & swing with a whistle to about 220watts on AM. On HI I get about 40 watts with swing to about 350 or so. That is according to the built in meter on the amp. I start by turning the LOAD & TUNE to 0. Then I key up with no audio. I turn my TUNE to the highest point just before it drops the back & then I turn it back to the left a hair. On my amp it is number 6. Then I key & tune my TUNE control to do the same. It is number 4. However, if I do not start at 0 setting on both tune & load, I can tune to dead key to over 100 watts on LOW & 180 on HI. I do not get a lot of swing on these settings & sometimes even backwards swing. Anyway am I tuning right when I start at 0? Also what kind of power should I expect? I thought I would get more then a 40 watt dead key with this big amp. Can & should I drive it a little higher? If I drive it with 4 watts my output power doubles. Will a KLV 1000 do a reasonably higher dead key then my KLV 400? Thank you all for all the advise in advance.
