My KLV 1000P is anly about 1 month old.
I seem to remember it putting out more dead key then it does now. Now, when I switch the switches from lo to hi1 or hi2 the dead key does not increase. However the swing does. Is there something wrong with the amp? A bad tube perhaps or is this normal? The klv 1000P is being driven by a KLV 400 which seem to act normal. It does about 40 watts more on hi then low. Please advise...

Audioman,

I have the KLV-1000 but not the KLV-1000P.

Mine will Dead Key 250 on HI and HI-1

It will Dead Key 350 on HI and HI-2

I have my dead key set Low to 2 - 2 1/2 watts going into the KLV-1000.

It also depends on what power you are driving it with. The KLV-1000P calls for 60 to 100 watts of drive.

At 60 Watts you will see less Power than at 80 watts or 100 watts of drive.

I would suggest using around 80 or 85 watts of drive and see what it does.

At 80-85 watts it should last a good long time.

ALLAGATOR! Jump in here and help this man and let us know what your new KLV-1000P does with your new Ranger 2995DX.

Well for a start take the KLV 400 out !!!! if you have the KLV1000P you need something that will drive it rite to start off with !!! never over drive it !!!! the KL400 is doing what on pep ?? probley too much !!with the KLV 400 you could be over driving it the KL-200P or KL-203 would work better if useing a mobile radio and a dead key of 2 or 2 1/2 watts into the 200 or 200P, dont get the driver power over 100 watts or you will see a BIG LOSS the tubes wont take the power your driving into it !!!
i run my KLV1000P with a 60 watt dead key i was running it at 45 but i wasnt doing no good on the amp !! yes i have drove it hard but no more than a 90 into it would be pushing it pretty hard!!!
but its not my amp run it till it blows !!!

I have the Galaxy 2517. Output about 1 watt, maybe 1.5 watts. The KLV 400 is on the low side & outputs about 60 with a swing to about 400. The KLV 1000P is seeing about 60 - 70 watts in.
The 1000p has about 250 out with a swing to 600 or so on low, 800+ on hi. The dead key power does not increase on the KLV 1000p when I turn it to hi. It does increase it's swing though.

OK, I just tried the KLV 1000P in another setup & here are my results.
I drive the KLV 1000P with my RCI 2990DX radio. I set the radio to put out 60 - 70 watts dead key. I drove that 60 watts directly into the KLV 1000P.
With the KLV 1000P set to LOW ... Dead key 160 watts swing to 600. HI1 160 watts swing to 800. HI2 160 watts dead key swing to 1200.
Does that sound right? I thought I should get a higher dead key as I step up in power settings.
