I was doing the npc-rc mod to my vr-9000 radio and i was well untill i got the Rf power levels.
To sum it up Vr-13 worked great, but vr-16 worked about the first few sec and then stop working at all. i Tested the pot and i got 0-5K on it so it works(by the way it stoped working when i was adjusting it)the knob on the front of the radio works, i can change the power. It was not the Dosy meter b/c the radio S-uint meter would not move.

What number (VR-Pot) are you refering to?

Just for starters, turn the board over so the printed side is up and touch up the 3 solder joints for VR-16 with your soldering iron.

You didn't say or not if you still have full power when the power control is turned all the way up. If it does indeed go to full power, then we can rule out the driver and finals.

By the way, at what power level did you set the high-power for? Hopefully not more than 8 watts because it still needs plenty of room to swing and still run relatively cool. Low power should be set at about a 1.5 watt deadkey.

I could not find a number on the board for it.

Low dead key on the VR9000

The pot is by D94 in front of the radio
R156 isin back of the pot
302 is the number on top of the pot
The pot is blue in color and is between
the two white wire connectors.

This is where I found it in mine

Hope this helps

Yes, I still have full power if i want it, and i pull the 5-K pot out to replace it but then i just tested it and it worked(but it still don't change low power). So i know the solder joints are good. After i posted this i looked "again" for this same problem and found a post on it. here it is http://www.copperelectronics.com/cgi-bin/discus4/board-auth.cgi?file=/34/10865.html

Tell me what you think

To answer your question, I think I am now totally confused.
