I think that I posted this question in the wrong topic category (Open Forum). Maybe posting it here will get me a better response. I would like to know, how many forum members or techs, prefer amps with no drivers such as a 2 pill configeration, or 4 pill quads, as opposed to the "Hot Boxes" with either the 1 or 2 pills as drivers (Exciters)?. I'd also like to know from your experiences or opinions which type of the 2 kinds would be more reliable and stable electronically? Finally which amp do you prefer to use on a daily basis? As usual, thanks in advance, and for the education.

Wolverine,
If you use a no driver box, you are gonna have to have a big radio to run the box. I ran a 2970 into a straight 4 pill with good results, but probably could have used more drive power. It is just easier to use one with a built in driver, like a two driving 4 or 6, then you can run the radio at a moderate level and maintain the integrity of your audio. Just my opinion. I have run a lot of both, I have run a two driving 8, a straight 8 being hit with a external amp, a straight 4 with the 2970, and probably most combinations you can think of. My favorite was a Dave's made 2 driving 6.

Then I guess that's why most people like the dual final Galaxy radios, because from what I understand, they really swing into the amp (4pill)increasing the output, whereas a single final radio won't. Now if I understand you correctly, hot boxes or amps with drivers would be perfect for a single final radio with heavy audio and no swing, as long as the "Little radio's" (My Uniden's) dead key is set at 1 to 1 and 1/2 watts. I hope I'm not misreading you, but I guess that answer is as good as any, which works for me.
Thanks a bunch.

Exactly right Woverine, though depending on the box they may want more than that 1 1/2 watts, I know that is what the techs recommend, and I agree with them for a starting point. If you use a lower end amp like the klv use the low dead key, other wise experiment, and see what your amp likes. Most of the competition style boxes will take up to a ten watt dk.
