I think there might be something going on with my KLV 1000. I received it on Thursday 8/19, I hooked it up and tuned it according to the instructions, results were not impressive. On Saturday 8/21 I adjusted my input voltage to 3W from 2.5W and readjusted the amp. I got good results, the settings were Load 3.75, Tune 7.0 and Drive 3.75. With these settings I got 250W on Low, 350W on Hi 1 and 450W on Hi 2. Sunday I did not use the Radio. Monday evening I noticed that the amp was not giving me the same results as Saturday so I turned everything off. Now it's Tuesday evening and I check my radio output, it's at 3W. I adjust the amp per the instructions and this is what I get, Load 1, Tune 7 and Drive 3.5. For output I only get Lo 100W, Hi 1 150W and
Hi 2 200W. I also noticed that the "on air" light is very dim when I key up. I got home tonight Thursday, I tried to readjust the amp again and got the exact same results as described above. I looked into the amp through the slots on the cover from the top and sides and it looks like all the tubes are lit. The four in front are clearly visible but the driver in back is hard to see but I believe it is lit. I also noticed that the amp does not get warm at all. When I hooked my dosy meter inline I get higher readings on that meter than on the built in meter on the amp.

Any ideas? I am still waiting for Copper to get back to me regarding this problem.

Steppenwolf,

YES, one Very Good Idea!

Call Copper Electronics at:

1-800-626-6343
9AM ~ 5PM Mon - Fri

And ask for Suzanne in Customer Service or Paul the Copper Tech and tell the person who answers the phone that Tech808 told you to call.

As it is covered under Warranty DO NOTHING TO IT.

Lon

I have emailed Suzanne asking for an RMA but have not heard back. I did call Paul but he had already left for the day. I am a busy man and don't have the time during the day to call so I must rely on emails. Unless of course someone at Copper will be available after 6PM.

Ok I just got back from an errand and decided to turn the radio on. I also decide to investigate a little further. Looking in through the slots from the other side of the amp and with the aid of a flashlight I locate the driving tube base and I can clearly see now that IT IS NOT LIT. This would explain such low power, in my mind anyway. I will email Suzanne again and try my best to call Monday morning. Thanks for your input Lon. Is there more to replacing a tube than I might think, like adjusting/tuning some other components?

Spoke with Paul today. He was very helpful and a pleasure to deal with. Thanks for your help. BTW He told me that his computer was out for upgrade so he hasn't seen the emails we sent. All is under control and I am happy.

Did you ever get your amp fixed, and if so, what was wrong with it?
