I was wondering if anyone knew anything about the Royce 1-641? I believe it's the first 40 channel SSB Base station Royce made, but do not know for sure. Also is the radio worth owning for use or only as a collectors item? Thanks in advance Bob

I just found out the answer for myself. It isn't worth owning. They had a few proplems when new, and now nearly 30 years later you can count on them having troubles. I also found out there are no mod's for the radio. It was a pretty expensive radio in it's day, but just isn't worth playing with anymore. Drat!!! |

Bob p, If you look in the Modification List that I have posted under (Tools) to the left of the Forum here you will find the Tune Up Information for the Royce 1-641 Radio. A neat old radio to own if you already have one but nothing Special. Hope this helps. Lon Tech808 |

Thanks Lon It was my very first SSB Base Station radio and saw one at an auction site and thought about putting a bid on it for old times sake. But after finding out a few things feel I might be better off with the memories rather than taking a chance on a 30 year old radio. 73 Bob |

Bob_p,never owned a 641 but did own a 642,the one with 3 meters and digital clock.with a Turner+2 it was a heck of a talker.as a matter of fact the only radio I talked to Alaska on(from N.E.Utah)in early 80's.If the right deal came along I would own another one along with the ssb version of the TRS Challenger of the same time period. |

Dindin I think the 1-641 was a year earlier and didn't have as many features. I saw a picture of the 1-642 and it really is a nice looing radio. But I think I'll be saving my change for an HF rig at least for the for now. 73 Bob |
