I was wondering if anyone knew anything about the Royce 1-641? I believe it's the first 40 channel SSB Base station Royce made, but do not know for sure. Also is the radio worth owning for use or only as a collectors item?

Thanks in advance
Bob

I just found out the answer for myself. It isn't worth owning. They had a few proplems when new, and now nearly 30 years later you can count on them having troubles. I also found out there are no mod's for the radio. It was a pretty expensive radio in it's day, but just isn't worth playing with anymore. Drat!!!

Bob p,

If you look in the Modification List that I have posted under (Tools) to the left of the Forum here you will find the Tune Up Information for the Royce 1-641 Radio.

A neat old radio to own if you already have one but nothing Special.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Lon
It was my very first SSB Base Station radio and saw one at an auction site and thought about putting a bid on it for old times sake. But after finding out a few things feel I might be better off with the memories rather than taking a chance on a 30 year old radio.

Bob_p,never owned a 641 but did own a 642,the one with 3 meters and digital clock.with a Turner+2 it was a heck of a talker.as a matter of fact the only radio I talked to Alaska on(from N.E.Utah)in early 80's.If the right deal came along I would own another one along with the ssb version of the TRS Challenger of the same time period.

Dindin I think the 1-641 was a year earlier and didn't have as many features. I saw a picture of the 1-642 and it really is a nice looing radio.
But I think I'll be saving my change for an HF rig at least for the for now.
