lol this is just me but I think that all the kl and bommer stuff is hype. If you compare the price difference between a kl and a texas star there isn't much of a difference. A kl 300 is 80 bucks. That will get you 150 watts on am. A Texas Star 250 will do more watts on am and sound a heck of a lot better. Theres only about a 70 dollar difference. Texas stars are all AB, kl's....well not sure but i know its not AB. Go with texas star or x-force.

Most solid-state KL amps are class C...even though they have a SSB switch! I have a KL-300p and modified it myself for Class AB...works clean on SSB (NOW!)...

I need help here, what good is a class c amp unless it has an associated tank circuit to smooth out the pulses, now x-force IS more costly than the KLs maybe the reason(tank circuit).I've seen class c amps that were that only because of "junk" tuning ,had a hooker linear that used the carrier to set the bias,on ssb no carrier thus really crappy audio totally unintelligable. It was 100 watts, cost me a bill for it then another to rebias, what a worthless investment.Class ab1 or ab2,very linear,ab2 is slightly more efficient,I lucked out and got a boomer 400 that is ab and is one sweet little amp,I was due for some good luck,it IS cheaply made, transformer windings and combiners are small gauge, but it works for me.I guess ab is like taking a wallet photo and blowing it up to 8x10 and keeping the original sharpness and class c is in addition running it through a shredder, best analogy I can give. Some radios used class c for am/fm ab for ssb, they had the additional parts to make class c sound good,as cb's(and exports) got cheaper they went to ab in all modes, there.Bigbob
