I am thinking about trying to wire either a Turner Super Sidekick or a Turner +3 to my new radio. But the Impedence has to be about 600 ohm's, Does anyone know if either of these mic's will work?

Thanks in advance

Bob

A Kenwood TS 480HX. It has the modular ends on it, but it I bought the 8 pin to modular converter, and I read that someone was using a Turner on a Kenwwod 570D with great results, and the two take the same optinional Kenwood mic's. The 480HX just needs the adapter.

Thanks for asking

Bob_P,both the Turner mics(+3 and SSK) are low imp.mics.Should work fine after you get past the plug problem.

Thanks Tech291 I have the 8 pin to modular converter so all I have to do now is wire one of these mic's to the eight pin mic plug.
I found one place that showed the wiring but it is confusing because it shows four wires, possibly attached to 5 pins, it's really not clear.

Thanks again

Looking at the diagrams, I'd say:
Pin 4 - Black (TX or PTT)
Pin 6 - White (Audio or microphone)
Red is the receive and don't think it's needed.
Pin 5 - Braid (Shield or mic ground)

I think your pin 3 ground would be used for the negative of Pin 2, +8VDC.

I gave up and took into the local shop to have both mic's wired.

I also e-mailed Kenwood and they suggested that I not do it, and that I buy a Heil Gold line for the best audio with that radio....

Oh well we'll see, I've read some pretty good things about the Turnere on some of the newer HF rigs so I hope it works out for me too.

I found a site that had the wiring for the Kenwood and matched the pins from another site that had the turner lay out. Unfortuneatley the stock mic sounds better than the Turner. Maybe the one's I had done at the shop will be better since they are my two favorite mic's, but I kind of doubt it.

By the way the wiring for the eight pin mic and the four wire Turner Microphones is

1. White
2. Black
8. Ground

Thanks for the help and 73

I'm curious about the mic wiring you came up with. Looking at the 480HX owners manual, the pinout for the RJ45 mic jack shows:
1 up
2 8VDC
3 Gnd
4 Stby (mic)
5 Gnd (mic)
6 mic
7 NC
8 Dwn

The mic' adapter must hace a re-routed some of the wires is all I can think of.

What I did was I found a page that dislayed how to wire a Turner mic for an 8 pin Kenwwod plug, and since the 480 claims it will accept any Kenwood 8 pin plug with the adapter I guess just got lucky and it worked.

I have to say putting that ground wire in the center of all those pins on three different mic's was a pain, but it seems to work fine. The only thing I do not have is Vox which would have been cool. It's probably the red wire that said it did not have to be hooked up on all models.

By the way the Shop wired the two microphones I had sent down wrong!

I had to re-wire those two as well, and by the way the Super Sidkick does sound better than the stock hand mic. anyway. I haven't compared the +3 yet.
