you say tx and rx.....there are no finals for the rx....can you better explain what you mean by this. if you mean that it is not working in rx or tx, then new finals will not fix your problem as they are only active in tx, u can pull them completely out and still rx. |

All it says on the front of the radio is Galaxy SSB and it is a base station. It doesnt say any other brand or type on it. Serial # 009079. When i recieved the radio all it will do is power up. I put a mic on it an the red light comes on when it keys but shows no modulation or anything. The needle doesnt even move..not even on my other meters. It has real low recieve but it is nuthing but static and u have to have the radio up full blast just to get that. All i know is i will never buy another radio off of internet auction site again...lol. I just want to fix it cause it is a nice radio. any info now would be greatly appreciated. thanks, Allen |

i hate to tell you this, but honestly, with the problems you have you will not be able to fix it yourself. you need to find a shop/service center that understands this radio and can handle this repair. don't trust just anyone. ask guys around the net and your area and you will find the right shop. |

ok here is the funny part...it keys up but shows no modulation an the recieve is still not there? out of curiosity, why couldnt it be the tx final thats bad and maybe the rx is just dirty? I am not tryin to make anyone mad just tryin to figure it out iss all i guess thanks Allen |

allen, your not making anyone mad at all...but you have to be like i am with my truck...when it screws up i take it to the mechanic and give him the keys and leave till he calls me. i don't mess with it and make things worse. especially if it is as bad off as your radios seems to be. and it can't 'just' be the finals because there is a carrier but no modulation. the finals don't produce both the carrier and the modulation. the modulating audio comes from the -MODULATION AMPS-. also the rx may be 'dirty'(i guess you mean out of alignment)...but if thatis the case, do you have a rf gen and sinad meter to correct this?? i'm guessing not or you would not be here asking how to fix it. i'm not being smart, just trying to show you that you have to be realistic about this. . |

ajm1571, the way i look at it; you've got a radio that is basically a paperweight right now. your options are to get it fixed and pay the price. (a great option if you have a qualified tech around.) of you could try and unload it on another poor soul and reap the karmic benefits from this kind of dirty dealing. or you could try to fix it yourself. with this option, you may still end up with a paperweight but you will know a lot more about it. if you are decided that youre not going to pay someone else to fix it, then my advice to you is to buy a copy of "The Screwdriver Experts Guide". i think that Copper sells it. if not it shouldnt be too hard to find. this book is a great primer on cb repair. read the book, decide what skill level you are at, and from there you will be able to decide if these repairs are something you think you can tackle. just remember, once you put your own hands inside your radio, chances are that if you do have to take it to a shop, it is going to cost more to fix then if youd never touched it. hope this helps. matt |

Thanks Matt fer the insight. I have decided to take it to a tech to have it looked at as I hate it being a paperweight...lol..As fer the screwdriver comment, That is something this boy aint gonna do! lol Eventually I will find someone that knows this radio. According to the tech I talked to, it must be a knock off of galaxy as there is NO brand name on it except for it saying Galaxy SSB. Go figure...lol Thanks to everyone fer their imput on the problem I am having. Allen |

I am not fer sure if it is similar to those radios. It looks like it is either runnin a 88 or 99 board on the inside. It is a Galaxy board, just not sure which one. It does have sideband, so that leads me to believe it is the 88 or 99 board. If someone could tell me which finals that are in it, that would greatly be appreciated. Thanks, Allen |

Ajm1571, The Board will have a number marked on it. If you can give us the Board Number it will make it easier to help you. Lon Tech808 CEF808 N9OSN |
