CEF Members,

I have found three different mods, from reliable sources, to open the clarifier on the Galaxy DX959. Copper’s mod differs slightly from the CB Tricks “method 1”. The Copper mod, in addition to removing R113 and D68 (CB Tricks “method 1”), removes D38 then adds a jumper in its place, then finally, running 8v to pin F1 on J9. The easiest mod sounds like the CB Tricks “method 2” which simply removes JP 195 and 196 then runs the 8v to pin F1 on J9.

Are there advantages and/or disadvantages to these differing mods? Please share your experience an knowledge on this mod. I want to do it once and do it right.

i would suggest, the less stuff you take out the better.. if it was me i would take a remove D38, replace with a jumper an run the 8v source to f side of j9... it seem better then to be romving 2 jumpers.. just my opioin..

Have many here opened up the clarifier on the Galaxy's? I have a DX2547 I would love to open up but it calls for a freq allignment afterwards. How much is the allignment in order, is it usually way off?

I am comfortable doing the allignment, it really needs it stock! But I need to get my hands on a freq counter that goes high enough, mine is for audio work :-( OR I need to find a good tech/shop in my area. Beings that I am a tech (without a 100meg freq counter) I forsee myself being quite picky!

May pick one up after tax time!

Buldog and Chad,

Thank you for your input. I am interested in the least amount of soldering and removing. I am inclined toward the CB Tricks Method 2 becuase it seems to only require clipping and spreading two jumpers then running the 8v power lead. If anyone has any other ideas of one option over the other, I would like them.

As for the allignment I plan to try the radio after the mod before I have it alligned. If the radio performs well this will save the the allignment headache. Is there anything else that I should consider? If this is a bad Idea please share. I am new to the modification idea and want to get all of the information that I can BEFORE I screw up and fry something.

Thanks again!
