Well, I have one. I had some work done to it 16 months or so ago. Worked good, but the power keeps dropping out. I have my base antenna up, but the base radio is not hooked up. This is a great radio, and I would love to keep it, but it doesn't work. I am open to any ideas, and I hope I put this in the right place. Let me know what you tech's think.

Sodapop,

I would honestly guess that less than 1% of the Copper Forum Members have ever owned or used a 4900B radio before so that can be the reason that no one has posted / responded to your question.

With out having in on a bench and some good test equipment it would be hard to even try and figure out what is wrong with it.

If no one posts with information then that means they have no information or experience with that radio.

You might try dropping Tech8541@copperelectronics.com an e-mail and see if he can help you.

Tech8541 is who Copper recommends for all out of warranty work / repair on radio's.

sodapop, could you please give me some details on whats happening with the radio? when you say the power drops out, do you mean the radio shuts off? or do you mean that the wattage out drops when you are transmitting. try to describe the conditions that exist when this problem occurs. like, it happens after i unkey, or as soon as i turn on the radio, etc.
give me some details and i'll try to help. i am not a cerified tech. just a ham operator with a very logical mind for troubleshooting. i hope i can help you.

Sodapop,
I had one, emphasis on HAD pretty radio, never worked right out of the box, traded it to a tech friend of mine, he could never get it to work right either. On my particular one after it was on for a while the recieve would drop out, and the transmit audio would disappear. Didnt want to upset you about my experience with your type of radio, but there it is, bad, bad experience.
Good luck with yours.

Rich

I had the SSB receive fixed, the audio was low. But the trouble now is the wattage drops out. This is a nice little radio, but she has had more then her fair share of troubles. My 2950DX that sits in my truck works great, but the 4900 just seems to fit my base needs. Any input is welcomed!

Sodapop,
Sorry, no input from me, I got so frustrated with that radio, that I had to trade it off before I ran it over! Maybe someone else out there had better luck with one.
