I just received a new x-force 200-12hd base amp, its seems to be transmitting great! nothing but good reports but when I turn on the pre-amp the receive signal gets weaker! not a real big deal because pre-amps are usually a joke anyway, but I am curious to what would cause this, the swr is 1.2 to 1 or less across all forty using a imax 2000 and a uniden washington, everything is grounded, thanks for any help

Thats happened to me before to. Radios have a max amount of noise they can take in. So if there is a lot of noise and you turn it on it might limit your recieve a little bit to save the electronics in the radio. I'm not sure but I have a texas star amp with a pre in it and it does the same thing when theres a lot of noise. Remeber preamps are only ment to be used when it is really quiet and your tryin to hear somebody really far away. Try doin it at night when theres no noise or skip and see how that goes.

What your saying makes sense, when I turn it on it sounds like the radio is going in to some kind of protection mode, the noise gets real flat like its against a limiter! I,ll try it to night like you suggested and see what happens, this forum is great and thanks again. Doug

Hey landcruiser, how is that amp? What does it dead key/swing for you. I know what they say on the site, just wondered what you get with your setup. Thanks,
Rich

I'll have to get back to you on the output of the amp when I ordered the amp I also ordered astatic 600 meters, well the amp showed up but the meters are back ordered! I called around and nobody has them in stock, so I checked the swr it was good, so I'm using it but I not sure what its putting out! when the meters show up I'll let you know. Doug
