I've seen these things called DX Modules that claim to give you high power,super swing and better modulation and i've also seen a thing called an amp modulator which is supposed to give you high power.Do they work? |

go easy, here, racer.
yes, bluegrass, they do what is intended(i won't get into whether or not it's doing anything good or not though...).
HOWEVER, most of them are nothing more then the
'swing diode modification'. a diode & MAYBE another resistor or capacitor thrown in for good measure. then, they give you the instructions for where to install the module & how to hook up a variable power output. & of course, you need to clip the limiter for the swing mod to work properly-according to the instructions.
so, basically, you are increasing the swing & at the same time being able to decrease dead key to make an easier match to an amplifier. you could do the exact same thing for less then 50c for a diode & wire it into your squelch knob. and, if you'd like, wire the clipped limiter into the bright/dim switch.
they in no way increase your power, they increase the builders bank account. |

If you are talking about the ones called "The Modulators" aka "pappa mod", "momma mod" etc., then they are nothing more than a resistor. Atleast for a Galaxy radio that is. You remove R249 and install two of the wires there in it's place. The other wires they tell you to hook up, doesn't matter cause they go to nothing inside that little epoxy casing.
