I recently got a White line DX400V used, and have not been able to find out much about it.Is it simmilar to the Texas Star DX400V? Also how should I be driving it? My Gallaxy 77HML is set to key abou 3.5-4 watts on low and that is how I have been running it to be safe.Any info would be great.Thank you.

Same as the Texas Star, just distributed by a different outfit.

Best two ways to tell if you're driving it with too much carrier:
1) Is the modulation at least as loud with the amplifier on as it is barefoot? If the audio level seems to drop when the amplifier is kicked in, you are probably using too much carrier.

2) Check the temperature of the heat-sink fins when you unkey. If it's not too hot to touch for a second or so before having to let go, you're probably okay. If it's so hot you have to draw away immediately, either turn the radio (or amp) down a bit, or add a fan blowing on the fins (or both?).

While I'm on the subject of a "-V" amplifier, it's better to turn the amplifier's variable control full clockwise. The control they use is just too small, and a big radio like a 77 will probably damage it if the knob isn't turned fully to the right.

This leaves you four 'stages', using the 'AM' and 'SSB' buttons. With that radio you may get more audio with the "SSB" button pushed in. Don't know until you compare. Pushing in both the AM and SSB buttons would be the lowest of the four combinations, might well be TOO low for that radio.

Thank you 2600. I was told by running the amp with just the red button in is "full bore", red button and what is the orange button on mine(third button) in is how you varry the power. Please correct me if I am missunderstanding, by turning the control knob fully clockwise is that the sams as running it full power? I appreciate the response.
