I am running a galaxy DX33 HML with a Black Cat HD 300, I keep my radio on low power while running the amp i also am running a 3FT jumper for my amp. My question is why is it while i am running my amp there is a slight delay in my radio before i can hear anyone else talk? PLEASE HELP!! Thanks for your time ,.,.,. |

Try 9 feet of jumper. You are probably having a SSB Delay, the 9 foot jumper ma not do the trick if the amp is basically designed for AM operation, or it is malfunctioning.. |

Pretty sure they called that feature "Automatic SSB" on that model. It's an excuse to leave off the switch to turn OFF the SSB delay. If you don't have a "SSB" switch on it, it's got "Automatic" delay on the relay.

2600.. Not actually, some amps are designed without any regard for SSB but can be ordered modified for SSB operation.
If I am not mistaken, Black Cat (or probably an aftermarket outlet) used to advertize a SSB modification "Option" for $25.00.
I will see if I can find that information. |

I found links to advertisements for the XForce line of amps, they are not designed for SSB use -the SSB Option still cost 25.00, just for example.
The only amp that I ever bought without a SSB switch was a KL-40, and I only used it for AM, so I don't know if it actually works in the SSB mode.
Logic would ask why, if it were normal, why the SSB switch exist at all? Maybe the Techs could weigh in here? |

Alot of the palomars , the KL300p and many others have automatic ssb delay . I believe the BLACK CAT is basically the same as Palomar |

Magnaforce amps have ssb delay. They are also produced by by the X-Force line of amps. The X-Force amps are class C, made for AM Transmissions. The Magna-Force line of amps are ready to go right out the box, with the ssb delay.

ive run a Lincoln and a blackcat HD 300 in a S10 running 213 coax to a 102" whip and i have never had any problems other than the beep comming over the amp for the subs !
And i use it on SSb and AM and never had the problem with the delay ! sounds kinda strange to me !!!

An electrolytic cap attached to the relay switch is charged by the rectified rf that energizes it. .1mfd gives you about a 1 second delay .15 about 2 and .22 almost 4 seconds,I like the .15.The reason it's there is because on am the carrier keeps the switch keyed between words,there is no carrier transmitted on ssb,so this cap is used to keep the relay closed.Bigbob |

I figure that they spend money to put the relay in there for a reason. Otherwise they would make more profit and leave them out, |
