I have a cobra 2000 gtl with channels allready expanded . The receive has gone out and TX is weak . I am either going to send it of tomorrow to be fixed , or order a new MAGNUM 257 . I figure with shipping and repairs , I will probably be looking at 100 to 150 dollars .I am in a quandry - love the 2000 , but real interested in the 257 . I need some outside opinions , and I respect the views of fellow forum members . Anyone have an opinion ?? |

Well, if the 2000 can be fixed for that I'd get it fixed. That's a classic. As for the 257, get it too if you can afford it. It's a great little radio. mikefromms |

I don't have either of those but... It "almost" seems logical that if you only have money for one thing right now then get the Magnum you want and get the Cobra done later..it ain't goin' nowhere and it'll be fun to play with your new toy.....no? |

every time i ever bought a new radio to replace my AR3500, i ended up sending the 3500 back to rf limited & getting it fixed! (i solved the breakage problem by leaving it in the base. alright, it 'only' broke 4 times, in 16 years). 1 replacement was my world famous grant xl, another was an hr2510-byebye, another was a sommerkamp ts2000dx-yeah right see ya, and the last was a very early delta force suggested to me by sam the man himself. whatever were the designers thinking when they designed that receiver??? i still have it, & it's pretty good after the magnum upgraded receive. just goes to show ya, 1861, the grass ISN'T always greener elsewhere! & besides, the 257 would fit in the 2000's speaker enclosure-with room for several more! won't the radio table feel naked with just a 257 sittin' there? |

New Member's(Radio's) in the family is alway a Great thing to me.(Can never have to many toys) So Try this. Buy the 257 now and take the 2000 to a place that don't charge a bench charge to tell you whats wrong with it and the price to fix it, then you can save to fix the 2000 if you still want. But in the mean time you have a new radio to talk with and not without either way if you get the 2000 fix. Hope this helps with making up your mind. CEF#476 Starface Auburndale, Florida |

I think if you like the 2000 so much then get it fixed. there will always be new radios but the 2000 is a classic and the longer you wait the more it will cost to fix it. You know that you will be happy with the 2000 cause you know what you will have when it`s fixed. My 2cents, AP |

Jessie, Best of luck on getting the 2000-GTL back up and running again, I get many nights of pleasure in the local round table here in Central Oklahoma. I run very much the same radio, the Uniden Grant XL as a base radio and get very good reports with it. 73, Carl CEF-357 |
