well my 3 year old son killed my radio lastnight !! i went to check on supper and came back in about a hour latter and found the radio had been keyedup the hole time i was in the kitchen ! now it has 0watts coming out of it ! but it still works fine other than no power comming out ! now for my question ! can it be fixed by droping new finals in it or will the whole amp have to be redone to get this back up and working ??? Thanks Allagator ! |

Jason, depends on how much damage was done, is the amp seperate from the radio or one those in radio types, do you have a strong burnt odor? With a radio as costly I would at least pay the bench fee to find out what's wrong. Just my 0.02 cents worth. |

I dont see why throwing a dk would fry the radio if everything else is up to snuff, my cat locked my mic open once, and the radio was on for 8 hours or so, didnt hurt it, just upset the other people that used the channel! Rich |

Yep assuming your swr is truly low, you should be able to leave it keyed for a LONG time and if your D/K is turned down, even more!Fix your finals, Alagator and your only fixing the symtem. You need to fix the problem too! I have had radios keyed for VERY long periods of time by accident also, and have known of people and heard people do the same in the past and the only time there is ever a problem like that is when the SWR is high or a fan burned out or something along those lines. Good luck! BC |

well so far i figured out my gatorod was shorted at the time of the deadkey cause the other radios i have hooked to it showes a swr of around a 3 so that could be a problem there ! and the radio was doing around 80 watts at the time of the deadkey cause the amp was off and i was just running the radio !!! but i will be on the net sunday with or without the 2995DX ! Thanks Allagator

WoW Allagator, that house of yours must be a cb radio and antenna jinx...LOL That reminds me of years ago when i fell asleep while talking on our home channel. I rolled over on my Turner +3 mic and it broadcasted me snoring for 9 hours...LOL.. Never hurt the Uniden Washington though. Well good luck, hope you get everything straightened out with your radio. ok here i go the 2995dx works as long as the amp is bypased ! so i took the amp cover off to find a big mess of solder all over the place !! and a few extra parts laying in the inside of it ! now here was the fun part ! wile putting things back togeather ! i found that both pills was fried ! HUMMM wonder why ??? LOL but i still ened up bypassing the builtin amp and used a backup amp and it works fine other than SSB then it just chatters ! anyone have a idea i could try ???????????? Sounds like your amp. doesn't have a sideband delay in it, or you output power coming off the radio is either too high or not high enough. My 2 cents. Carl CEF-357 |
