try radio shack and pick up the Technician class study guid... Also you can study online at eham.net. when you are ready look on www.arrl.org and find the closest test. It really is not hard. Tech is mostly rules and regulations. Hope this helps

Airplane1,

Sorry but no such thing as a 6 meter License.

You will need to at least get a Techincian Class License issued by the FCC and then you will be able to use 6 meters.

CLICK on the Link below:

QRZ's Practice Amateur Radio Exams

Then start taking the Practice Test's for Technician Class

When you are passing the Pratice Tests with at least 70% on every test you will be ready to take the Written test for your Ham License.

Hope this helps,

Lon

i would like to think airplane's interested in getting on 6 because of my plastering it all over the place...even if it's not the reason, STILL GREAT!! more cbers & copper members on 6 is GOOD!

QRZ's Practice Amateur Radio Exams
as well as www.aa9pw.com which i feel has the better mix are the best places for practice questions. airplane, i didn't study for the test. figuring i knew it all, i checked those 2 sites the nite before i took the test, figured i could pass based on what i knew & proceeded to get 31 out of 35 correct. had i studied/read a licensing manual for a few weeks before, i probably could have gotten 3 or 4 more correct.

read 'six meters, a guide to the magic band' by ken neubeck, wb2amu (a local here)-as a newcomer to amateur radio, that book helped me to decide to get into 6 meters. fairly close to cb type skip, though not relying on sunspots as much, it has yearly seasons, & 1 is currently running now. i love to dx on 11m, but when 6 is rolling-it is FUN!!!

AMAZING THING IS HOW AN ANTENNA 30" SQUARE GETS RIGHT IN THERE WITH BEAMS & SEVERAL HUNDRED WATTS! of course a local, with a LARGE beam & at the very least the full legal max just toys with me-but that's all in fun, he lets me get my contacts!

I was looking through a box of old papers and found this card. This man is well know as a leader in early 2 meter weak signal work ( The W2AZL 417b tube low noise converter is classic ) I had the pleasure of having lunch with him in July 1970 not long before he died. In old VHF books he was like ed tilton was to early 2 meter antennas the one you followed when builting low noise receiver RF stages. A GREAT GUY who would sit down with a young ham and show him how to make his station just a bit better !

6 is getting like 11-am talking to the same DX stations day after day!

when QSLing came up on the forum a while back, my mom had recently given me a box of cb qsl's from 70's skip contacts-checking 'em out i noticed many of the south america & european cards had ham calls...

spoke to KE4Kissing Vanna White today...interesting thought & he was wondering why he was causing a pileup.
