Have read not to use Mini 8 or 213 because of high loss with longer runs, over 20 feet, of these coaxes on 6 Meters. I need to run about 100 feet tops and this will include the coax used to make a choke balun. I might be able to use as little as 75 feet for the whole thing. I can't afford the .80 per foot coax that is recommended plus the cost of the special connectors that should be used. I just want to replace the RatShack coax with the barrel connector hooking the two 50' lengths together. Which of the lesser expensive coaxes would be best for 6 Meters and which cover, poly or PVC, is better.

Thanks, Alleycat KI4KHT

Mini 8 will suffice on 6 meters at a run of 100 feet without any problems. Of course there will be a little attenuation but not much to worry about at those frequencies. 213 would be an even better choice.

Alleycat,

I run roughly 100 feet of S.I.W. RG-213 on my 2 meter and 6 meter antennas with No Problems.

I have an SWR of around 1.1.1

Just my nickel's worth,

Try this link for calcualting losses.

http://www.timesmicrowave.com/cgi-bin/calculate.pl

It showed a loss of 2.6 dB for rg-8x at your length and 1.44 dB for rg-213. I'd splurge and go for the 213. There are other choices as well but the 213 would be a fairly efficient choice.

hope this helps

Thanks all. You have answered my question. The one review I read talked of high losses with runs of over 20 feet. The person probably ment 200 feet. The other review also talked of high losses in the 50mhz range but did not say how long a run had to be before there might be a problem.
