Can the Palomar 300 Elite work on SSB? Nothing is said about SSB on the description. I guess I just always thought all amp were designed for most modes.

Most amps will work on SSB, somtimes you have to add a capacitor to the relay to delay the switching to keep up with the SSB or the amp will keep unkeying when you are in between words. |

What a relief. I was afraid since there wasn't a switch it didn't work on ssb. Oh boy! Living large with a big swing!

Mike, The Elite 300 has the fuse on the inside of the amp. so you don't want a second one in you 12 volt line.

I have a pal. elite 250 it has 2 mrf3749 pills rated at 85 watts with 8 in per transister,I guess that's why it only puts out 135 with 4 watts in,I thought one of the pills was dead,but it's to clean.Any idea what pills are in yours?Bigbob |

Palomar Elite 300= 2 X 2SD1446, 3 watts AM dead key drive = 150 watts high and medium sideband mode, I have no idea what the amp. does on AM, although power on high is the same as medium, high acts like an overdrive audio is much higher than medium. Consumes close to 20 amps. on a base installation in the sideband mode. |

I thought this amp had Mf-455 finals in it? Anyway, I got my amp in today and it is a Blackcat. I'm making arrangements to get what I ordered.

Kick that pal.300 with 15 watts pep on ssb and she'll crank out over 250,my 250 with same pills will knock down 120 with 6 watts dead key and with modulation it'll come up to 180,but I don't talk am anyway,now with a dual final radio cramming only 20 watts pep in on ssb,this little babe will do a solid 270,but put a fan on the heat sink or cut a hole in the roof of car and mount heat sink up and seal with rtv for max cooling.Kind of a conversation piece,met a trucker who did this with his x-force 800,it looked so cool,literally and figuratively.Bigbob |

Is the Blackcat they sent me the very same amp as the Palomar Elite 300? It looks just like it but different name and finals? Didn't get any instructions and wonder if it too is a high drive?

I wasn't aware of the Palomar Elite 300 being a high drive. The ones I've seen listed were low drives.

Yankee,technically speaking,yes it is a low drive,but it can take twice the input of a similarly wired amp with mrf455s,sd1446 input 5 watts max per.,mrf455 input 2.5 watts max per.With a stock cb you'll get nearly all the 455s have to give,with the sd1446s you won't but it will run much cooler because you're no where near their saturation,you can put 6 watts in and nearly double your out,but leaves no headroom for swing or modulation,on ssb though, you poke it with 20 pep and that little bugger will give 300,you try that with mrf455s and you got lots of smoke,I would say the sd1446 pairs are medium drive and the mrf455s are low drive,untill you start using matched quads or sixs or eights,then you need lots more drive to fully excite them.Bigbob |

Anybody know anything as to how much the Palomar Lizard (the green one) will do, and how good is the little stronger preamp is that it has?
