I have a problem with my base. When i first start talking it's transmitting at full power but after a while as the radio heats up the power output drops and as a result so does my signal. I think overheating is the cause of the problem but i'm not sure. What can i do?

You got the variable power to run an amplifier, are you running the amp when this happens? If so, does it happen without the amp? What else was done to the radio besides the variable power mod?

AM only as far as i know.I only run SSB on the net.Could the problem be caused by not having a ground rod?I've been meaning to put one in but i have not gotten to it yet.

Doubtful. If that wasn't a problem before it wouldn't be a problem now. Hmm, what changed? Oh yeah, you now have a variable carrier control!

I think you're just running the carrier too high. This radio might be able to handle a 6 watt carrier, but I'd stay in the 5 watt area to make sure it's able to fully modulate the carrier.

Did it start happening before or after the "peak and tune" back in February?
