I have a Cobra 142 GTL that has no receive or will not transmit. I was thinking about trying to fix it myself and was wondering what the part numbers are and where are they are located on the board. I was going to replaced the Final, Driver and Audio IC chip.Where could I get these parts without using a C/C. I would like to get this thing up and going. I got it off of ebay and it was DOA...*Man did I get burned*. So I am aready out alot of money on it. Its also a 5 pin and has the Extra Channels installed. Thanks... Thanks. |

I think you can send it back and get your money back. if the add said it was working you have an honest reason to return the radio. and the Internet auction in question will stand behind you. At least they did when a close friend of mine had a problem with a seller. Carl CEF-357 |

I think I could just replace those parts that I listed above and it would work. I would like the replaced anyway. Just don't know the part numbers and where they are located.

Well he said he would pay some on fixing it. I would do the work myself if I knew the part numbers to get for the Final, Driver, Audio IC for the 142. I think I know the part number for the audio ic. I would like to keep this radio because it looks almost new and has the extra channels. Thanks for any help. |

Not sure on the part number of the audio IC, but the driver transistor is 2SC2166 and the final transistor is 2SC1969. If the audio IC is the same as Cobra 2000/148 GTL, the audio IC used there is TA7222P, This is ONLY a guess on the audio IC, but I'm sure of the driver and final being used. I've seen this like problem and it came down to just the audio IC being burned out, with that IC being replaced the radio worked 100%. |

I hope I am posting this in the right area ... I have a cobra 142 gtl ... it works, i am only getting around 18-22 watt swing .. i have a maverick 250 as a "get out and be heard " extra ... i can only get about 100-125W out of the box on low with this radio.. with my rci 2950 i was getting around 275W ... my question is: can i put one of those stinger boards inside the 142... using the DC plug on the back of the radio, for quick power up and down ... will i be able to still have around 3-4 W dead key and swing around 40-60W ... this way i can still run the maverick 250 and have my power back to walk the dog when needed ... |

I also have another problem ... someone set this radio up for channels on the NB/ANL and the PA/CB switches... is there a block diagram for this radio so I can figure out where the wires go for the NB/ANL ... i really need my NB ... I am also going to get the TR32(2SC945 i believe) and put it back in the radio ... thanks steve |

Its been awhile since I posted on the Cobra 142 but I did replace the Final, Driver and Audio IC chip and there are still no receive or will not transmit. Is there anything else that could make this radio do this after replacing those parts? Thanks |

Try replacing the mixer IC , unsure of the location and IC number on that radio but it usually sits upright near the VCO part of the board and has about 10 pins on it , or does the radio have electronic or relay TX\RX switching ??
