I have a schematic somewhere thats shows the Excaliber as having basically the same board as the older model superstar 3900 radios. Similar to a galaxy Saturn internally also. They are good radios imho.

I have one, and I am very pleased with its performance and the reports i get are excellent. the audio that an Excalibur produces with a D104 is excellent! I bought mine from the original owner and it came with the factory stock mic, the orig. box, and even the original foam packing for the radio.

hope that helps,

again with 'lou franklin', check him for excalibur info. but which excalibur are we talking about? 'original' excaliburs used an ancient PTBM121D4X board, classic cybernet chassis.. some of the same radios(not seen in YEARS) were the cobra gtl150, colt 320 fm & dx, 1200dx, ham int'l concorde II, hy gain 2795 & dx, intek 1200fm, lafayette hb870afs, tristar 747. later model excaliburs, including excalibur base, did in fact use the EPTZ3600-10Z, the excalibur samurai used the EPT-3600-102 & 112 or SRT-3600-10. all those boards found their way into the superstar 3900. connex 3300, galaxy II, saturn, pres franklin, texas star radios also used the eptz3600z, the galaxy 2100 used the other board. ALL THESE BOARDS ARE EXACTLY THE SAME!!! just different parts values, different features on different radios, & parts left out where cutting corners to save $$ allowed radio to operate(efficiently??? remember, we're talking GALAXY here....)that's why, til early '90's at least, the same MODEL galaxy radio could be bought a few months apart & they'd have different: features, position of controls, bands, clarifiers, etc
