I have a Galaxy 2517 base and I bought some noise toys --the ones in the red rubber case. I bought a project box and put a 4 pin mic plug on the front of it like on the cb and added the push buttons for the toys. I used a old mic cord and ran it into the back of the box and wired it to the mic plug. That way you can plug a mic to the "toy box" and it has a cord to screw in where the microphone would go on the radio. I tapped in to the audio wire "pin 2" and ran + and - in through the back --ran by a power supply. When I hook it to the radio--it has a hmmmmmm to it when keyed up. I double checked all the conections and When the "toy box" is hooked up to a cobra or a galaxy mobile it doesnt have the hum and it works like it should. When hooked to the base is when you here the hhhuuummmm. You can discounect the audio wire from the toy box and key up and the huummm stops -0-hook it up and it is back.
Do I need to strap over a ground or something or what do I need to do--- it also is the same way if I hard wire it to the radio.
Do you all have any ideas??? In all actuallity, the toy box has external power--but im just tapping into the audio pin of the cb --jus tlike you would do to a d104 mic when you add a toy.
If anyone or any of the techs can help--please leave a post. thanks Eric

superbazooka,
imo the simplist thing to try is to run a wire from the neg post on ur power supply to the radio case. this may work IF the isolating caps aren't too large. I AM NOT fond of this idea though.

i would suggest that the best thing to do is get the + - from the 2517 instead of the external power supply.

if the project box is big enough, u may consider putting 8 AA batteries inside, with an on-off sw.

IF IF IF u really wanted to get creative (or just wanting to stay away from the xyl), change the mike conn on the radio to 5 or 6 pin; change to same on toy box and mike using a 6 wire cable; then with the extra pin on the radio's conn, put the 12v on it going to the box.

(the d104's had this option once upon a time.)

i did this in the 70's to eliminate the battery in a pwr mike; esp the 7 volt batt.
