I have a cobra 1000 gtl I'm trying to get going again.
Ok At 1st the only power I had was to the built in clock and nothing to the radio part.
I found a bad ac/dc switch in the back of the radio and replace it.
The Radio started working again and I thought I have fix it. WRONG!
Now the radio works great for only the 1st 20 to 30 min's the radio is on.
Then the radio starts making a clicking noice and the meter needle swings all over the place.
In my mind I'm thinking that something is getting heated up and going bad and making the radio do this.
Just not found out what yet..
Can one help me on this?

does the 1000gtl have a relay in it?

if not, i would think that something is going on in the transmit /receive switching diodes.
since this happens when the radio gets warm, i would get a schematic, circle the possible components in the T/R section, and using a can of "freeze spray" (check MCM electronics), with the radio on and warm, spray short sprays on the various parts until you spray one section and the problem goes away for a few seconds. Voila! you have found your bad parts. im guessing its a pair of 1N60 diodes.
hope this helps.
