I have a chance to get a 2547 new in the unopened box for a hell of a price. I was wanting to know if these were good units and if there is any drawbacks to the 2547.
Thanks :

e-auctions have proven that anything purchased 'for a hell of a price' can be resold at a substantial profit.
even i can't pass up the deal of the century-even if it IS a galaxy.

I used one for about a year. It's a great radio when it comes to external features and layout ingenuity. As far as performance... Good on AM eeh on SSB. If you are looking for a solid legal radio then this is about the only ticket for a base.

BUT... I moved the magnum257 into the home and it smokes the 2547! I do mostly SSB and the magnum kills it. People think the 2547 sounds "thicker" on AM but the magnum is louder due to the speech processor holding the modulation up. SSB is another story. If it's a good price get it. as for mine it's going in Ebay so I can buy a new amp for my car (audio amp)

actually, the 2547 & texas ranger 696 base are THE same radio. my dislike of galaxy radios notwithstanding, better things are said regarding the 696 then the galaxy. why? i don't know. also the same are the galaxy dx949 & 959, as well as the TR 396, 399, 699, 696fd1 & original 696f mobiles & the new 900 radios. not that there is anything particularly wrong with them, there just are better choices.

But as I said earlier, from a user interface standpoint... the 2547 is awesome :-)
