I have been having issues with tvi in my own home. I recently plugged my KLV-550 into a power strip (the type used for a computer and all it's devices) and it disapeared..

Just a tip for those of you with problems.

Does anyone have any idea as to why this was happening, and why this fixed it?

Hawk1,

The KLV-550 is not a Radio it is an Amplifier with a built in power supply.

CLICK on the LINK below to take a look at it.

KLV-550 Base Amplifier

Hope this helps,

Duck, my guess it was feeding RF into your home's wiring via the power cord and into the neutral or ground outlet prong.....perhaps the power strip filters this out- great tip!

I keep looking through all the pull down menus and can't find this stuff. Rather get something new from Copper than used off EBAY.

Sinker,

On the MAIN Copper Page you will see a Search Box and a Catagory Box.

Just type in what you are looking for or Check all the catagories.

If you are looking for a KL or KLV product just type in the Search box KL or KLV.

Hope this helps,

Lon

Dick246,

Can you give more detail on the situation before then after the change...you changed nothing to your situation other than used this power strip? So your rig, amp, etc all in the same position, using the same plug outlet..no changes anywhere? No changes in wattage or mode used? What RFI problems were you having before and what devices were you interfering with? Do you know if you are or were bothering any of your nieghbors? Interesting....

also here are a couple good links about RFI problems/solutions:

Thanks for the info Don. Before I even put my station up I went to all my surrounding neighbors and put rf chokes on all of their televisions/phones and used tvi filters there. In the radio room I use a vcr to tune channels on my TV. VCR's are very easy to get inside of to begin with. So basicly all I did was plug the KLV-550 into a power strip (not the ones with just plugs, this has the abillity to shut off each individual outlet) such as this one: http://image.compusa.com/prodimages/28/23018c26-a698-11d4-b41e-00805fe6e270.jpg

Anyhow, it removed about 99% of all the distortion. I could never hear myself through my tv though. It only caused horizontal lines..

hey duck !! you are right!! i did the same thing last year by accident. i needed 3 more feet to make my 450 watt tube amp reach a new socket.(i took it off my computer) and i stop coming through my tv's upstairs and down.(i have 6 tvs,two downstairs and four upstairs)and my music system also.my base station's limiter is cut(i did'nt do it it was already done when i got it.)so i've been living with hard stares from my wife when she's on the phone.now she's say's nothing.and mine is a six socket regular strip, not a console like yours. sixkiller505

Tell your dad to go to a local electronics store and ask for a DSL filter. It'll filter out the RF.

Alternatively he should use less power, decouple the RF from the coax at the feedpoint of the antenna, raise the antenna, or move it away from the house. Or do all of them.
